Mother and Babe Sea Fae adorned by Moonstones, Rose Quartz, Freshwater Pearls, seashells, Czech glass crystals and rhinestones. Created with eco-friendly paper clay that is hand-sculpted and painted in hues of blue, turquoise, purple, pink with gold leaf edges.

All seashells in this piece were found on Winter Island, Salem MA. This line took several months to complete. My inner mermaid channeled these pieces!

I crocheted a chain of shimmering blue, peridot and pink silk threads which is 36 inches long and can be tied to your desired length.

On the back of the pendant reads "i believe in magic".

Another lovely visit to Waikiki Beach, Winter Island for my daily Vitamin Sea fix!

Resident familiar, Nubi juan Kenobi found a sunny spot in the Practical Magic Salem Studio on Saturday. His fangs are magnificent... getting them extra long for the Halloween season here in the Witch City, Salem MA!

my latest line of art to wear created with seashells, pebbles, sand and driftwood found on my excursions to Winter Island, Salem MA, Plum Island Ipswich and Sandy Point Beach in Ipswich. 

My muse has turned into a mermaid since we moved back to Salem MA. I cannot get enough Vitamin Sea these days.

I have been finding gorgeous European Oysters seashells on Winter Island. They have hues of purple, pink and sea green and are a lovely shape. Apparently they were introduced to Cape Ann North Shore of MA years ago. I do not remember seeing them the last time we lived here. Love wire wrapping them with freshwater pearls and gemstones. 

I think this line of jewelry would make unique mermaid wedding accessories, bridal shower gifts or bridesmaids gifts.

A hike through Winter Island Salem MA

If you follow this blog you must know by now that i am obsessed with Winter Island! It not only has two magical beaches but there is an old fort known as Fort Pickering that you can hike through.

"Fort Pickering is a 17th-century historic fort site on Winter Island in Salem, Massachusetts. Fort Pickering operated as a strategic coastal defense and military barracks for Salem Harbor during a variety of periods, serving as a fortification from the Anglo-Dutch Wars through World War II. Construction of the original fort began in 1643 and it saw use as a military installation into the 20th century. Fort Pickering is a First System fortification named for Colonel Timothy Pickering, adjutant general of the Continental Army and secretary of War in 1795. Today, the remains of the fort are open to the public as part of the Winter Island Maritime Park, operated by the City of Salem."

And i am eternally grateful that we were able to move back to Salem MA this 2018. Yes this year was a doozie for the entire planet... at least a few good things happened!

Another magical day at Winter Island!

I think this may be the image i would put on a Christmas Yule card... if i actually sent some this year. Today was a lovely day on Winter Island. Cold but not windy. Seagulls were friendly and the waves were lapping.

Winter Island Magic!

Yesterday i celebrated my birthday by visiting my favorite Salem spot - Winter Island. It was cold and windy but so peaceful. Lots of sea shells, especially scallops found on Waikiki Beach. 

So nice to inhale sea air and clear my head. It has been a very strange year - for all of us on the planet. Hoping to start this new one in a new light - with hope, more love, compassion and of course magic! I am grateful to be back home.

One of my favorite places to walk to during spring & summer when we lived here before. Sitting on the rocks when the tide is out, watching the gulls laugh and listening to the sound of the waves lapping. It was too cold to walk today!

Love the little tide pools with sea creatures in the rocks.

Scallop shells found on the beach thanks to the Sea Faeries. Not sure what i will do with them. Maybe put them in a jar... or make a few Sea Witch Spirit Dolls? My inner child had so much fun walking on the beach looking for treasures.

October has been a crazy month here in Salem MA. Haunted Happenings celebrations, Halloween, Samhain, crowds, tourists and traffic. As much as i love the season, i am happy that it is now November and the Witch City has become a quiet little town again. The beach at Winter Island is peaceful and the only crowds are laughing sea gulls. Ahhhhh!

Sandy Paws!

Our pup, Quan Yin Kali Wu is loving her new neighborhood. We have been taking her for walks to Collins Cove which is less than 2 blocks from our new home. Seashells, sand and sea air. It is so good to be back in the Witch City.

Winter Island Therapy

Wooohoooo......We are now officially Salem residents! 

This weekend I drove 12 hours with 2 cats and a dog in a Kia Soul from Alexandria VA  following my husband who was maneuvering a Uhaul truck. Our bodies are still paying for it. So we took a break from unpacking to visit Winter Island. Ahhhhh the sound of crashing waves, laughing seagulls and the aroma of the sea breeze. Free therapy.

So much more to do, unpack and set up. The Planet Calamari website and shop which i started 24 years ago has had a make over and name change. (Like a bad haircut that goes out of style this change was way over do!) 

The new shop is Whispers of the O'Fae, which also is the name of the book i wrote a few years back. I have a special relationship with faeries, elementals and magical creatures and decided to go with a name they like as well. All a work in progress. Stay tuned....
