Salem Arts Festival
Salem Arts Festival 2019
Woohoo! 9 months ago today i was driving our Kia Soul with 2 cats and a dog in the back, following my husband who was maneuvering a U-Haul with all of our belongings on our way back to Salem MA. It took about 13 hours and OH Aunty Em... there is no place like home!
So apropos that this weekend is the Salem Arts Festival. My muse is so happy to be back in Salem. ... so happy that she urged me to join the Salem Arts Association.
It is so much easier to create here in Salem than it was in muggle-ville Alexandria VA! Being surrounded by water, magic and a touch of the absurd tonifies my soul. I am so grateful to be back.
Last night was the opening reception of the Salon Des Refuses exhibit. Two of my spirit dolls are happily residing at the gallery surrounded by amazing art. I tried to photograph them but, spirits hate that sort of thing. Maybe my photographer husband can pull off a few decent pics for the website, blog and Facebook page.
Today i will be volunteering at the Salem Arts Association booth in Derby Square near Old Town Hall. It will be great people watching and hope to see some familiar faces and old friends.

Mother and Babe Fae Undine Dreams ARTifact Necklace
Undine Dreams ARTifact Necklace
Mother and Babe Sea Fae adorned by Moonstones, Rose Quartz, Freshwater Pearls, seashells, Czech glass crystals and rhinestones. Created with eco-friendly paper clay that is hand-sculpted and painted in hues of blue, turquoise, purple, pink with gold leaf edges.
All seashells in this piece were found on Winter Island, Salem MA. This line took several months to complete. My inner mermaid channeled these pieces!
I crocheted a chain of shimmering blue, peridot and pink silk threads which is 36 inches long and can be tied to your desired length.
On the back of the pendant reads "i believe in magic".

Vitamin Sea and Sunshine!
It has been raining and chilly most of the past week. The sun finally made a guest appearance today and our temp hit around 60 degrees. Woohoo it's a heat wave here in Salem MA!
To celebrate we went to our favorite beach, Waikiki Beach on Winter Island in Salem MA.
The seagulls on Winter Island have a sense of humor and are very brave.
While we were sitting on the rocks soaking up sunshine, two ducks waddled up to us, checked us out and decided it was safe for them to sit beside us for a bit. Very sweet. They eventually left when a woman roaming the beach walked to close while picking up seashells.
And a white egret flew over by the rocks, stayed a bit then flew off. Magical!

Undine Dreams
Since moving back to Salem MA, we have been going to the local beaches several times a week. So hard to believe i lived 7 years away from the magic of the sea. There is something so soothing about the sound of waves lapping and the ocean air. Instant therapy.
The lighthouse at Winter Island is a dear friend. Always there to greet us no matter what the weather is like. Seagulls, ducks, geese swimming and laughing. Turtles sunbathing. It is paradise here. And of course you can feel the magic of the Sea Elementals, the Undines while walking on the beach.
These beach excursions to Winter Island and Plum Island in Ipswich have inspired my new line of art to wear, Undine Dreams. https://whispersoftheofae.com/undine-dreams
Created with seashells and driftwood found on local beaches. Hand sculpted and painted Undine faces from eco-friendly paper clay. (I do not use polymer clay such as Fimo or Sculpey. They are toxic and made from PVC. Not biodegradable!)
Embedded in the paper clay are fragments of shells, sea moss, driftwood, rhinestones, glass beads and semiprecious gemstones and crystals. I crocheted several strands of shimmering cord to use as a chain for these pieces. They can be adjusted to the length desired.
These are statement pieces. Perhaps i have been watching Grace and Frankie too much. I do think Frankie Bergstein would wear some of these!
On the back of each piece is a quote that says "i believe in magic"

Mama Mia Here We Go Again...
May is almost here... Mother's Day too and the soundtrack of Mama Mia keeps playing in my head! I spent most of yesterday giving the Whispers of the Ofae online shop a spring makeover.
Almost all the sea inspired line of jewelry has been added, still a few more to write about and photograph. And i am running out of room to put everything! The Friendship of Salem Returns!
Salem's tall ship, The Friendship has been in Gloucester MA for three years being repaired. So she was not at her home, Derby Wharf, Salem MA when we moved back in the fall.
Today she returned via tugboat as she has no masks or sails yet, in the pouring rain. Several of us greeted her waving white hankies and of course screaming WhooohooooOOooo! So happy to have her back. It brought tears to my eyes. Such a Salem treasure.

Not too many seashells today. However we started to collect beach rocks to place around our house. Hoping today to make it to Sandy Point Beach or Plum Island in search of more moon snail shells and driftwood for my new line of jewelry. Happy New Moon!
Happy New Moon in fiery Aires!
Time to set you intentions and make some magic.
Today I am forced to be off as my Four Paws Acupuncture Bark Mobile will be going in for a tune up! So no animal acupuncture house calls today.
Fortunately I have stockpiled some beads, crystals, seashells and driftwood and hope to create a few new pieces today with the help of my familiar, Nubi juan Kenobi who loves to lounge in a sunny spot in my sun porch studio.

Labradorite has become one of my favorite stones to wear daily. Such a dreamy mix of colors. It attracts Angels and Spirit Guides and i am pretty sure Elementals.
