Undine Dreams

Since moving back to Salem MA, we have been going to the local beaches several times a week. So hard to believe i lived 7 years away from the magic of the sea. There is something so soothing about the sound of waves lapping and the ocean air. Instant therapy. 

The lighthouse at Winter Island is a dear friend. Always there to greet us no matter what the weather is like. Seagulls, ducks, geese swimming and laughing. Turtles sunbathing. It is paradise here. And of course you can feel the magic of the Sea Elementals, the Undines while walking on the beach.

These beach excursions to Winter Island and Plum Island in Ipswich have inspired my new line of art to wear, Undine Dreams. https://whispersoftheofae.com/undine-dreams

Created with seashells and driftwood found on local beaches. Hand sculpted and painted Undine faces from eco-friendly paper clay. (I do not use polymer clay such as Fimo or Sculpey. They are toxic and made from PVC. Not biodegradable!)

Embedded in the paper clay are fragments of shells, sea moss, driftwood, rhinestones, glass beads and semiprecious gemstones and crystals. I crocheted several strands of shimmering cord to use as a chain for these pieces. They can be adjusted to the length desired. 

These are statement pieces. Perhaps i have been watching Grace and Frankie too much. I do think Frankie Bergstein would wear some of these! 

On the back of each piece is a quote that says "i believe in magic"

Mama Mia Here We Go Again...

May is almost here... Mother's Day too and the soundtrack of Mama Mia keeps playing in my head! I spent most of yesterday giving the Whispers of the Ofae online shop a spring makeover. 

Almost all the sea inspired line of jewelry has been added, still a few more to write about and photograph. And i am running out of room to put everything! Wishing all a very happy last weekend of April. It has been pouring rain here all day yesterday and this morning. Hoping the sun will make a guest appearance soon. Meanwhile, our trees are starting to sprout green and flowers are blooming. Nice to be back in a place where there are four seasons!

Ahhhh Mystical Sea

Another lovely day at Winter Island right before a storm. Choppy waves, sea air and magic!

 Found a mermaid's purse on the beach. Symbolizes prosperity and good fortune. Now residing on the sun porch to dry out - it STINKS! Here is a great Youtube i found about the contents of these black bags.

Our pup, Quan Yin loves visiting Waikiki Beach on Winter Island almost everyday. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed after May 1. Will have to figure out a way to disguise her! Maybe a mermaid's tail?

This week i will be adding more of the our new line of jewelry Aphrodite's Grotto to the online shop. Handcrafted with eco-friendly paper clay that is sculpted and painted. The Friendship of Salem Returns!

Salem's tall ship, The Friendship has been in Gloucester MA for three years being repaired. So she was not at her home, Derby Wharf, Salem MA when we moved back in the fall. 

Today she returned via tugboat as she has no masks or sails yet, in the pouring rain. Several of us greeted her waving white hankies and of course screaming WhooohooooOOooo! So happy to have her back. It brought tears to my eyes. Such a Salem treasure.

The crew had a hard time getting her docked. She hit one of the poles on the pier and i think that is when they decided not to try to turn her around to face the other direction. It was pouring rain and hard to see.

Sea Therapy

Sandy Point Beach Ipswich MA

I love our visits to Plum Island, Joppa Flats and Sandy Point Beach in Ipswich. Sunday we took a drive over and saw so many gorgeous birds, White Egrets, a few juvenile Bald Eagle pups, a flock of Turkeys, Hawks, a Woodpecker and of course Seagulls. Lots of moon snail sea shells too! 

It is about a 45 minute drive to Plum Island from Salem MA. Gorgeous scenery on the way so it is worth it. And we found the most adorable farm stand, Northern Lights Farm Stand which had organic fresh veggies at reasonable prices, and bitter green apple licorice. Woohoo!

Repent or burn....

It's tourist season here in the Witch City - which means the hard core Christians are out once again in full force harassing people in lines at the  Salem Witch Museum and other attractions. 

These folks usually just appear during October, but for some reason they descended upon us today. Maybe because it is a state holiday - Patriot's Day and they knew Salem would be crowded? Who knows. I guess what i don't understand is... why are they so angry? Wasn't Jesus a nice peaceful hippie who loved everyone even if they were rejects? And are their protest really effective converting tourists, pagans and witches to their strict religion? Don't these people have anything better to do with their time?

Ironically today after strolling through Salem, we came home to find out that Notre Dame in Paris burned to the ground. So sad to lose such a historical treasure. I am grateful to have seen Notre Dame in Paris in 2001. Magical and very goth. Not sure how they could ever recreate it. Sending love and light to Paris.

Sunday at Sandy Point Beach

A lovely day at Sandy Point Beach in Ipswich MA. The first day that we have been there that the wind was not whipping or it was freezing cold. Gorgeous sunshine, waves and sea therapy. 

My favorite thing to do there is collect moon snail seashells. They are so gorgeous and make lovely jewelry. And my inner child loves searching for them.

Ahhhhhh the aromatherapy of the sea is so healing!

  

   I  could have stayed all day but we had to return home to let the dog out!

These are the beauties we found on the beach. Can't wait to create with them later this week.

When the Sun returns to the Witch City!

The Sun has returned!

Not too many seashells today. However we started to collect beach rocks to place around our house. Hoping today to make it to Sandy Point Beach or Plum Island in search of more moon snail shells and driftwood for my new line of jewelry.
