I am happy to announce that two of my Spirit Doll pieces, Dances With Sticks and I've Heard the Mermaids Singing will be at the Salon Des Refuses Exhibit at the Salem Art Gallery!

This is my first formal art show since moving from Alexandria VA where i regularly had pieces at the Del Ray Artisans Gallery in Del Ray, Alexandria VA. Good to get back into the groove of making art again.

Debuting our new line: Undine Dreams!

    Undine Dreams

    Jewelry & Art

Deep in the sea, where Atlantis once lived there still remain sea undines and mermaids who live peacefully unseen by mankind.
Undines are a category of elemental beings associated with water, first named in the alchemical writings of Paracelsus. Some believe they are Sea Faeries, Mermaids and Water Sprites.
This collection of art and jewelry was created with eco-friendly paper clay, seashells, driftwood, sand, pebbles and beach treasures found on the beaches of Winter Island, Collins Cove and Derby Wharf of Salem MA, as well as Plum Island and Sandy Point Beach in Ipswich MA. There is magic in the sea!
I will be adding more of these one of a kind art pieces to the online shoppe soon. They are difficult to photograph. (Then again all Fae are!)

    Peaceful Slumbers

Sea Faery Babe nesting in a large moon snail shell adorned by freshwater pearls, glass crystals, seashells and a friendly crab.

I used eco-friendly paper clay for the face. Large Moon Snail seashell which i found on Sandy Point Beach in Ipswich. European Oyster seashells found on Winter Island, Salem MA along with Fairy Snail Shells, crab claws and crab shell. Genuine freshwater pearls, Czech glass crystals and crystal rhinestones. When this piece is in the sunlight tiny rainbows dance around the room.

The sand and small pebbles are also from Winter Island in Salem MA.

How to amuse your muse on a cold day...

As arctic air freezes most of the North and Northeast of the country many of us are staying in as much as possible. Yesterday we had a few snow flurries, a small dusting but not much else. This morning the roads were icy with a touch of white. Taking the dog out to pee was an adventure!

Meanwhile... i have had to move my art supplies from the sunporch studio into the living room Way too cold to work out there - so cold that my paper clay froze!

Paper clay pendants drying before they can be painted. During cold damp weather they take about 3 days to dry. Patience is not one of my virtues but i do love that paper clay is eco-friendly and does not need to be fired.

My muse has been having fun creating a few new spirit dolls with the seashells and driftwood  found on Plum Island, Sandy Point Beach and Winter Island.
These pictures are not the best. Will be taking more when these are finished. They will be residing at The Witchery on Pickering Wharf, Salem MA sometime soon.

Before i start a spirit doll i usually have some sort of intention. I may get inspired by one something i want to use in the piece or just a thought. Yesterday while deciding what to work with i pulled the Angel card BIRTH. Aha... OK.. thank you for that inspiration!

I found two huge broken lobster claws (or are they crab? over on the beaches by Plum Island. Something so cool about broken shells. Love incorporating them into my work. It looks like it could be some sort of nest or womb for a sea babe. So inside there is a tiny clay head. Though you really cannot see it.

The moon shells also have sea babes inside them. I love love love finding these moon shells. They symbolize the moon, prosperity and infinity. And they are stunning. We have bowls of them all over the place since we started going to those beaches. Hoping to create some jewelry with them as well. My muse is on overwhelm with all these shell ideas!

Moss and sand were added along with freshwater pearls, Czech glass beads, shimmering threads and a few other shells.

Spiritually pearls soothe the body, mind and soul while healing negativity. They are a symbol of rebirth, birth, new beginnings. The Chinese believe pearls aid in fertility as the help balance the body’s natural rhythms and hormone levels with lunar cycles. They are considered yin and a sign of the Moon.

Still not finished but getting there.

Not the best photo but it was night and i used my phone. She should be photographed hanging on a wall. When she is over at the Witchery there will be a proper photo taken. Still working on her name. Perhaps it will just be Birth. Is that too boring? She has three babes, two are in moon shells and the other is still in her lobster claw womb.

Another lobster claw babe in progress. This one is taking longer. Using driftwood and a branch i found. The hardest part of these is trying to figure out how to hang them. I am not a left brain person!

Today the winds are brutal so we will be staying in with short dog walks. Hoping to finish these pieces soon. My paper clay pendants are finally dry and ready to paint. Looking forward to making a mess!

Things to do on a rainy dreary day

It is dreary and rainy here today in the Witch City. If you are bored and don't want to waste the day watching TV or worse... news - why not learn how to create your very own Spirit Art Doll?

This class is about 1.5 hours long. It took several months to film and edit.

In this 1.5 hour class you will learn to make two different types of dolls. One created with sticks and branches. The other with wooden BBQ skewers. You will also be taught how to make your own paper clay doll faces, as well as how to use fabric, ribbons, beads and found objects to decorate and dress your doll. We will also cover how to add special details and how to hang or display your finished doll.

    Modules include:

Setting the Intention of the Spirit Doll
How to select sticks & branches.
How to make paper clay faces.
    Painting paper clay faces.

    The Witchery of Salem MA

Woohoo! I am so excited. My line of Spirit Dolls are now residing at The Witchery on Pickering Wharf in Salem MA. They are so happy to be in a place where people believe in magic and appreciate bizarre art!

All have been created using eco-friendly paper clay that i hand sculpted, painted. I used recycled fabrics, sari ribbon, yarn, feathers, moss and semiprecious stones with glass beads. Many of these have taken months to make. Some started off completely different and then morphed into who they are today.

The Witchery is known for its Tarot Experiences. (Check out their website for a much better explanation!) http://www.thewitcherysalem.com

It offers readings, live performances, art and of course all the wonderful witchy wooie wooie baubles, candles and cards one would hope to get in Salem, the Witch City.

Just a few more days until October and the Haunted Happenings season begins. Did you bring your broomstick?
